Newsletter #3 - Please Tell Me That Is Not Your Music!

Kia ora everyone!

Big life update: I’ve accepted a job as the composer on the long-running medical drama soap opera Shortland Street.

Having just celebrated its 31st birthday, Shortland Street is the longest-running drama series on NZ Television. It's older than I am-- and in a twist of fate, my mum has even said that she used to watch Shortland Street way back when she was pregnant with me, leaving me to wonder if maybe that explains a few things about me...

The show runs Monday to Friday, and so I must write music for a whooping five episodes a week, an absolutely insane turnaround, which will be sure to keep me extremely busy. But this is such an incredible life change for me, I am now able to do music fulltime, all day, everyday!

Tune in this week!

My episodes start airing on Monday, so do tune in!

Although my first two episodes are a bit light on music, if you thinking about checking out the show this week, I would recommend the later episodes in the week especially Thursday or Friday— which are a little more interesting on the music side of things.

What else is going on?

Thanks so much for everyone’s kind words about my string quartet music release two weeks ago. It has been so amazing sharing it with everyone, and getting such a lovely response to it!  Thanks to everyone for listening and sharing this very special music release for me.

The interview on RNZ Concert about the release went really well, you can listen to it here.

I also did a couple of other media-related things regarding the release, I spoke on RNZ Concert about how cool David Long's music for BBC’s The Luminaries is, you can read it on this page, and I also did a interview in the local newspaper The Dominion Post, which you can read here

Along with Shortland Street, I have a few other musical projects in the pipeline, I was able to finish a short film in the weeks before starting Shorty, and I was helping out on a couple of exciting projects in the lead-up to starting my new job (including helping out on a very cool score by composer Ewan Clark), I will be sure to write up about these when they are released.

Thanks so much for reading!
