Newsletter #9 - Butterfly
Kia ora everyone, hope you are all well and enjoying the new year!
I wanted to mention that I've just released a music video that shows the violin recording we did for the score of Butterfly, set against a few shots from the film.
We recorded violinist Yury Gezentsvey, who was Principal First Violin in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for many years before retiring recently. We recorded at the studios of Jake Stokes (my previous employer, at the music school Apollo Music). Jake was amazing and helped with some technical things when I got confused by Cubase.

The short film Butterfly, was directed by Alfio Leotta, and featured many of the same team that worked on Follow The Light, and The Death of Hector last year.
The film played last November at the 2023 Aotearoa Poetry Film Festival. Because the dances had to be choreographed to the music, the music had to be written before the film had been shot.
The cast and crew of Shortland Street, can you spot me?
What’s coming up?
Shortland Street is back on television screens. There is a number of new cast members so a number of new character themes have had to be written. There are definitely some exciting musical events coming up! With Rahu dying on the operating table of Harry Warner in the Christmas Cliff, after it was revealed that Harry faked his medical qualifications— will Harry be caught, or will he get away with murder?
Aotearoa SyncPosium
I've got my tickets to this conference and workshop on screen music which is coming up next weekend in Auckland. If you are planning on attending hit me up, and we can meet up!
After applying, I was asked if I could give a short talk on Saturday morning about Shortland Street. So do come along, and hear me say a few words about what I've been up too!
Thanks so much for reading!
